When my first son was 2 and first heard of Santa Clause, I told him that he was a nice man who believed in Jesus and helped the poor but he no longer exists. When I think about this, I laugh and think "my poor son."  I don't know if this harsh truth was necessary at this young age but it shows my distaste for anything that draws attention from Jesus on days that were meant to celebrate Him. 

Naturally, I was surprised to find out that on my favorite day of the year, Americans celebrate bunnies and eggs. As a kid, I do remember getting a wrapped egg at church and learning that it represents Jesus' resurrection and our new life in Him. When I found out this was not the meaning behind the bunnies and eggs we see at Easter in America, I didn't want to have anything to do with them.

So why are we doing an Easter egg hunt at Easter Fun Fair this year?

   Because my heart for the lost became greater than my dislike for the eggs, knowing that this was the way to get them here.

   Because I believe that the power of the gospel is far greater than a plastic egg and it is not even worth fighting against.

   Because Jesus came to earth to meet us where we are and I want to meet them where they are.

The eggs at Easter are not going away anytime soon but if we can teach them to think about Jesus' resurrection and our new life in HIm, every time they see it, then I believe the victory is ours.
