Spiritual Leadership by Henry and Richard Blackaby was informative, but felt dull and repetitive after some time.  The book described common topics like "Leader's Challenges", "Leader's Role", "Leader's Preparation", and so on all the way to the second to the last chapter "Leader's Pitfalls" like so many other spiritual leadership related books and trainings that I quickly became bored.  However, when I got to the last chapter "The Leader's Rewards", I realized my folly and the trap I have set for myself that detracted me from appreciating and comprehending the spiritual leadership fully.

Too many times, the first thought that comes into my mind when the topic of Christian leadership comes is the sacrifice that I have to make.  I forget the faithful promise of rewards by God for his obedience servants as written in 2 Tim. 4:7-8.  Whether it is God's Affirmation, the Integrity at Home, the Integrity at Work, or the Rewards of Relationships, or simply heavenly rewards He promised, these immutable promises of God always become afterthoughts instead of the first thought.  Jesus promised as he ascended to heaven "And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age".  Not only will He reward me, he will be with me eternally to fulfill the will of God.  I repent being a slave to my sinful nature and thinking of my sacrifice only.  I will remember that Jesus promised to reward me and be with me before the beginning of the creation, so His promises will be my first thought as well... by surrendering to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
