Jesus is my Lord. As emphasized in this book, Jesus commands and I obey. I’ve had the chance to experience such mentality in the army. If a person of higher rank commands, I must follow. Even when I can’t understand the command, or don’t feel like doing it, I must do it. There is strictness, discipline, and even a certain coldness in such mentality. 

On the other hand, God is my Father, and he cares for me. Whenever I see young children at church, how they run to their parents with such excitement, I am reminded that I can run to God with such excitement as well. Meeting God personally, and developing a deep, intimate relationship with him, is something that I hear very often to pursue. 

After reading Disciple, being reminded of the authority of Christ, it felt strange for a moment how we are servants of God, slaves in fact, but also beloved children of God as well. What kind of mentality should I have in my daily walk? The mindset of a disciplined soldier? Or the mindset of a cheerful child? 

The resolution, of course, can be found in the person of Jesus Christ. He was the most faithful servant, always putting the will of God first, and yet is the beloved Son of God. We are being sanctified, becoming more like Jesus. As Juan Carlos points out, God has given us a new heart. That I may learn the mindset of Christ, full of wisdom and love, submitting to my Lord willingly, while also overflowing with peace and joy that comes from fellowship with my Father.
